Government
Pendleton has a
council-mayor-city manager form of
government. An historic old building,
previously a junior high school, was
beautifully renovated and remodeled to house
city hall offices and municipal court. The
first floor is occupied by the library.

The city operates two
fire stations and an ambulance service.
Pendleton has a low Class 4 insurance rate.
Fire-fighting service is provided beyond the
city limits on a contract basis. The city
also has a full time professional police
department.
Pendleton boasts many well-maintained city
parks, including the aquatic center, which
beckons residents and visitors alike to take
advantage of the water slides, picnic
tables, shelters and grills, playgrounds,
tennis courts, and wading pools.
The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla
Indian Reservation (CTUIR) has a Board of
Trustees, which is the governing body for
the Reservation, with nine elected members.
The General Council elects the members every
two years. The CTUIR provides police and
fire protection in addition to programs for
natural resources, education, social
services, public works, economic development
and more.
