Economy
The overall economic base is sound and
stable. It is supported by agricultural
production & processing, but has been
diversified with the expansion of existing
manufacturers, service based industries and
tourism. We expect this trend of
diversification to continue.
Examples of significant business expansions
are: Pendleton Flour Mills, Hill Meat
Company, Haus Barhyte, Inc., Keystone RV,
Eastern Oregon Children’s Multi Treatment
Center, St Anthony’s Hospital and the
Wildhorse Resort & Casino.
There is significant governmental influence
in the economy and workforce as Pendleton is
the regional headquarters for a variety of
federal, state, regional, county and local
public agencies.
During the last 10 to 15 years key new
businesses have located here. Some of these
arrivals include: Continental Mills,
manufacturer of Krusteaz flour products;
Keystone RV, manufacturer of travel
trailers; Power Vision, manufacturer of
truck mirrors; and Lippert Industries,
manufacturer of travel trailer chassis.
Regionally, the Wal-Mart Distribution
Center, Smith Frozen Foods, Kinzua
Resources, Diamond Eye Manufacturing and
Quantum 9 Distributing are located in
near-by communities – also served by
Pendleton.
Pendleton is the County seat and has several
Federal and State offices in addition to the
city offices. This is due in part to the
geographical location of Pendleton and that
it is the largest city in Northeast Oregon.
Due to the location and relative size,
Pendleton is the hub of wholesale/retail
trade for the area.
