Pendleton Foundation Trust

History of the
PENDLETON FOUNDATION TRUST
Founded May, 1928

Pendletonians can look with satisfaction at the record of an institution that has served the community for over three-quarters of a century. The Pendleton Foundation began in 1928 as a community trust fund. It was the first of its kind in the State of Oregon.

With the beginning of a new century, it is time to update the history of this organization and show appreciation to the many citizens who have supported the Trust with their contributions. From a very modest beginning, the Pendleton Foundation Trust has grown to almost four million dollars and is still growing! Wherever one goes in Pendleton, you can see the evidence of the gifts that the Foundation has provided over the years.

A large number of gifts have been received over the years from people interested in Pendleton. These monies were vital to the success of the Foundation. As the importance of the Trust became more visible to the community, a number of very large individual contributions began to come to the Pendleton Foundation Trust in the form of estate gifts. Donations in memory of community members who have died are also an important source of funds.

The Pendleton Foundation Trust has given over a million and a half dollars back to Pendleton for a wide variety of community improvements. More than 75 non-profit organizations have benefited from trust grants. Over $100,000 in grants is now being returned annually to the community. Directors serve voluntarily without pay.

Because of the love and generosity of the people of the community, through their small and large contributions, the Pendleton Trust continues into the 21st Century with a feeling of optimism and confidence that these goals, set by the founders many years ago, will continue to:
”Assist civic and educational undertakings whether now supported by private gifts or public taxation.
To promote educational and scientific research.
To improve living conditions or to provide recreation or recreational grounds for all classes.
For such other civic or public purposes as will best make for the mental, moral and physical improvement of the inhabitants of the City of Pendleton, according to the discretion of the majority in numbers of a committee to be constituted as hereinafter provided and to be called and known as the Pendleton Foundation Trust.”

As the Foundation reflects back over decades of service, it can be proud of its list of accomplishments it has contributed to civic, educational and charitable needs and improvements.

Donations have helped to make Pendleton a wonderful place to live and improved the quality of life for all Pendleton residents.

You can help. All donations, small and large, continue to help build and protect the many activities of our town.
